Senioritis has fully taken over. The antidote: fourth quarter.
With fewer than 10 days left of high school, seniors have been more concerned with finalizing college decisions, preparing for prom, and figuring out how in the world they are going to finish their senior project along with the meaningless assignments teachers have been dishing out.
That being said, grades are suffering.
Teachers know that seniors have pretty much checked out, yet they continue to pile on the work. After writing senior term papers, many thought that the rest of the year would be a piece of cake. They couldn’t have been more wrong.
Without a doubt, the fourth quarter has been the antidote for senioritis. It’s unbelievable how fast I had to snap out of senioritis when I found out about my most recent assignments. I never thought that I would be working this hard just to pass some of my classes. This is something that most people don’t realize until they actually reach senior year – classes get much harder.
I have been forced to study harder, stay up later, and devote even more hours to school work these last few weeks of school than I did when I felt that it actually mattered. Even with all this effort I couldn’t, for the life of me, find the motivation to do quality work. My grades have consequently been taking the hit.
Before this quarter, I was certain that I would be able to take full advantage of the senior privilege to not take an exam in a class that I have an ‘A’ for the year in. Now, I’m facing the possibility of even more work resulting from studying for exams that I probably shouldn’t be taking.
The worst part about taking finals is knowing that I could have easily avoided them. If I had continued to put the same amount of effort into the fourth quarter as I put into the first three, I wouldn’t even have to show up on the last week of school.
The most popular reason for senioritis is when seniors think that because have already gotten into college, there is no point in trying for the rest of the year.
The point of trying for the rest of the year is to relieve a lot of last-minute stress. It is much easier to keep trying during the school year and avoid the stress of exams. No matter how unfair the tedious work is, just do it. It will help in the long run.
This is a warning for those who have not yet reached senior year. Don’t take the end of the year lightly unless you plan on taking all of the final exams, because the myth that the end of the year is the easiest proves untrue.
