The first quarter has ended, and everything is kicking into an even higher gear, from sending in college applications to maintaining a strong GPA to celebrating upcoming holidays.
However, as a senior, one of my final JC traditions has just ended: my last Spirit Week and Homecoming.
This has been one of my favorite activities at JC and has brought so many fun memories. When I was a freshman, we weren’t able to have a Spirit Week and dance because of COVID-19.
Sophomore year was my first time being involved in JC’s school-wide spirit days. It was so enjoyable, and I was so happy to finally participate in something that drew me to apply here in the first place. Although weather factored into the dance, everything worked out in the end, and I had one of the best nights.
Now, fast forward to just last month. An early Homecoming and Spirit Week provided a lot of excitement that helped to ease the stress with many senior deadlines. The week started off with claiming a Powderpuff win, which definitely kicked the week into a high gear.
It was great to have senior status and be a senior citizen for Age Day, which was something I looked forward to.
The dance was incredible. I loved the theme, and although it was cut short, I still had the best time.
I am so glad that I have these memories to cherish, one of my many “lasts.” It was incredibly bittersweet to go to my last Homecoming football game. The theme of Black and Gold brings so many memories and my friends, and I always enjoy watching the games. The Homecoming game is always my favorite. I love the intense competition between schools, always hoping that JC will bring home the win.
It’s also cool to see who will be on the Homecoming Court since the game is the “big reveal.” When the cheerleaders and band perform, it’s always awesome.
This week will always hold a special place in my heart.
