The semester ended in a crazy, unplanned way when students missed four days out of the five during the week the quarter was planned to end.
John Carroll ended up being closed due to inclement weather on Friday, January 19, leading to a single-day week. This prompted the administration to extend the quarter by a day.
It had been announced at the beginning of the year that JC had three scheduled inclement weather days planned into the schedule. In the event there would be a fourth, students would move into virtual learning. However, when the fourth inclement weather day occurred, it was on the final day of the semester.
On Monday, January 22, students had a schedule that went across the top of mod one classes, meaning that they would see every class and get extra time to turn in work, complete tests, and finish units.
This applied to my French class. We had planned to complete extensive listening and sorting sessions. This project was a large grade and was supposed to be completed during the last week of the quarter. Luckily, the project was able to be finished due to the additional day although it was not easy for the class and the teacher.
The end of the semester was a wild and stressful moment for administrators and some students. Through all this, school really handled this well by giving students and teachers the weekend and a schedule which allowed for an extension for the first semester.
