Many people have different opinions on Valentine’s Day. Opinions can also change if you’re dating someone or single. This day alone can make people jump for joy or sulk in sadness.
Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love for a significant other. This can be a very exciting day if you do have someone you can celebrate with, but if you don’t, the day may mean nothing to you and can even make you sad. On the other hand, love doesn’t have to just be with a date; it can be with parents, grandparents, friends, and anyone you love.
On this day, though, love becomes very commercialized. For example, if you turn the radio on in the car, you will most likely hear a terrible love song. If you go to a store, you see they are filled with the heart-shaped candies that are very sweet.
On Valentine’s Day, lots of candy is being passed around, from chocolate to cotton candy.
This day can also be very expensive. This can be due to buying jewelry for a significant other, going to a nice dinner, or purchasing roses or other type of flower.
The main question is: is Valentine’s Day just a Hallmark holiday? Did they make this a holiday just so people could spend money? Are we doing just what stores want us to do?
Restaurants must love it. If you don’t make a reservation weeks ahead of time, you may not get in. You could also look for any last-minute cancellations. On the other hand, times are tough within our economy right now.
Should we turn Valentine’s Day back into a day where people pass out handmade cards and eat ice cream together while watching romantic movies to help cut costs?
The average cost for a dozen red roses is $80, and let’s be real, they won’t last too long. The average cost of a box of heart-shaped chocolates is $30.
`Right there, that’s $110 for a dozen roses and a box of heart-shaped chocolates. That doesn’t even count the money needed for dinner.
Valentine’s Day has been over-commercialized over the years. Stores have taken advantage of this holiday, so they can get more profit from people. We should stop this money-grabbing holiday altogether and show our love in more unique and personal ways.
