Women’s basketball dominates over C. Milton
The women’s varsity basketball team triumphed over C. Milton Wright on Wednesday Dec. 22.
The first quarter started out with the Mustangs winning the tip off, but it quickly turned back over to JC. Junior Miranda Ripken took advantage of this mistake and made a quick lay-up. Miranda continued to score throughout the first and second quarters as well.
With 3:24 left in the first quarter, junior Gina Maiorana was hit in the eye, stopping the game for a minute. With the substitution of sophomore Sam Clarke, the game play continued. With 2:05 left, the Mustangs turned the ball over to JC by stepping on the base line. This call ended the first quarter with a score of 19-3, JC ahead.
The second quarter was full of both steals and turnovers from both teams. Only two minutes and five seconds into the quarter, a second travel was called on JC since the beginning of the game. This gave the ball back to the Mustangs, where they capitalized with a two point shot.
With 6:12 left in the half, CMW stole the ball away from JC but gave it back to them by stepping on the side line. A two point lay-up was made by Clarke, making the score 22-5. Only nine more points were scored in the remaining time of the half. When the buzzer rang, the score was 27-9, JC holding strong.
The third quarter was dominated by JC. Between the steals from senior Amanda Wolfe and fouls against CMW, JC was able to pull away and make a larger gap in the score. At the end of the quarter, JC was still winning with a score of 48-17.
With 4:07 left in the game, JC’s entire team was substituted into the game to make sure fresh legs were out on the court to continue the game. JC continued to play strong and ended the game with a final score of 61-25, JC.
The Patriots seek to win their next game on Dec. 28 in the Diamond State Classic game.
