Sports Updates: Cross Country runners selected for All-State and All-County teams

Women’s cross country senior runner Kristen Kohles and men’s cross country runners senior Will Hopkins and sophomore Evan Moore were selected as FirstTeam All-State on Running Maryland.

“To be named All-State means you are one of the best in the state. I thought Kristen had a shot at second or third team but was pleasantly surprised when she made the first team. She has certainly worked for it and has been the backbone of this year’s outstanding team,” women’s cross country head coach Robert Torres said.

“It was an awesome opportunity to be chosen for All-State. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my team and coaches and constantly being pushed by them to do my best. We had such a great season, and I’m so proud of my team for our accomplishments,” Kohles said.

In addition to this, Kohles also made First Team All-County along with senior Amanda Spaeth, freshman Adria Pirrozi, and sophomore Ellie Marindin.

“To be named All County means you are one of the best in the county. Having four girls named to the first team is pretty special. This matches the most we’ve ever had,” Torres said.

Although it has not yet been announced, Torres believes that “we should have at least two more, maybe three more named to the second team, [senior] Alex Gromacki and [sophomore] Holly Driver, and maybe [sophomore] Faith Ensor.”
