Construction on the trainers’ room went underway on Oct. 28. The office is meant to create privacy for students and the trainers.

Construction on the athletic trainers’ office began Wednesday, Oct. 28. A new office for Erik Fabriziani and Karen Eder is being built. The office is meant to create a sense of privacy not only for Fabriziani and Eder, but for injured athletes as well.

“Right now we have to talk to students about medical issues in a busy room. With the new office we’ll be able to have private conversations with students and also have a quiet area for kids to take IMPACT tests,” Fabriziani said.

According to Fabriziani, the office project was proposed to administration by Eder and himself. Originally, there were supposed to be renovations to the locker rooms, but after those plans didn’t go through, the administration decided to start the trainers’ office project.

The office will be a new change for the students as well. “I don’t necessarily like the new office. I just don’t like how everything is being switched around, and it’s just a change,” junior varsity soccer player Jevan Leyh said.

Students generally haven’t liked change, according to Fabriziani. “In general [the students] don’t like it because it’s change. Even when we changed from the carpet to tile everyone got bent out of shape,” Fabriziani said.

However, some students agree that the office will add a level of professionalism. Senior varsity football player Damon Lloyd believes the new office has its benefits. “I like [the office] because it makes the training room look more professional. It allows the trainers to be more focused on serious injuries,” Lloyd said.

While the trainers’ office is currently under construction, Fabriziani has been working during the day from the two beds in the trainers’ room and not at his desk. However, he says things are going alright. “[Facilities] told me [the office] would be finished by the end of [this] week. I’m not sure if it’ll be done by then, but I appreciate everything they’re doing,” Fabriziani said.

“We’ve adjusted okay. It is difficult not being able to sit at my desk during the day, but facilities has been really nice. They’ve been helpful by accommodating to our busy time periods during the day when we have a lot of kids [in the trainers’ office] trying to get taped,” Fabriziani said.
