Week in Sports: Week of Jan. 9

Senior Alexa Martinez hurdles her way into fourth place in the 55 meter hurdles. The women’s indoor track and field team traveled to the CCBC Essex Campus on Friday, Jan. 13, finishing in second place out of 17 teams.

Indoor Soccer — Monday, Wednesday, Friday

The women’s indoor soccer team had a packed schedule this week, facing three opponents. The team played Mercy High School on Monday, Jan. 9, and defeated them 3-2. On Wednesday, Jan. 11, JC defeated Roland Park Country School with a final score of 6-4. The team carried their momentum into their last game of the week against Notre Dame Preparatory School, tying 3-3 with goals scored by junior Erin Scannell and seniors Sarah Meyerl and Abby Hormes.

Women’s Basketball — Monday, Wednesday, Friday

This week, the women’s basketball team traveled to three top teams in the IAAM A Conference. On Monday, Jan. 9, the team lost 41-63 to St. Frances Academy. Then, they  faced Roland Park Country School on Wednesday, Jan. 11, but lost with a final score of 39-59. Then, on Friday, Jan. 13, the team lost to Seton Keough with a final score of 34-59. “I believe these past couple losses have just been a learning experience… [they] motivate us as a team because we now know what to expect and have goals to achieve,” junior point guard Myah Savage said.

Women’s Swimming — Friday

The women’s swimming team faced Severn this week at SPY Aquatic Center. The team came home with their first win with a score of 79-64. “I think the team performed exceptionally well, shown by our first win. I think what has changed and will continue to take us forward is how the team, as a whole, is getting in better swimming shape, which enables us to compete in every event,” junior swimmer Amelia Wickham said.

Women’s Indoor Track and Field — Friday

On Friday, Jan. 13, the women’s indoor track and field team traveled to CCBC Essex Campus to compete in an IAAM League Meet. The team finished second out of 17 teams with key scores in the 55 meter hurdles, 800 meter relay, 300 meter dash, 500 meter dash, 800 meter dash, and the first-place 400 meter relay, which included junior Ashlee Kothenbeutel and seniors Charlotte Haggerty, Abby Hormes, and Alexa Martinez.

Men’s Basketball — Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday

The men’s basketball team played four games last week: three at home and one away against Mt. Carmel High School. The team lost against St. Vincent Pallotti High School on Monday, Jan. 9, with a final score of 65-68. On Wednesday, Jan. 11, the team defeated C. Milton Wright High School 69-58. Playing away on Friday, Jan. 13, they beat Mt. Carmel High School with a final score of 64-52. Returning home on Sunday, Jan. 15, the team played Mt. St. Joseph High School, but lost with a score of 71-77.

Men’s Swimming — Friday

On Friday, Jan. 13, the men’s swimming team traveled to SPY Aquatics Center to face Severn School and St. Vincent Pallotti High School. The team lost to both Severn and St. Vincent Pallotti with scores of 26-59 and 11-79, respectively.

Wrestling — Wednesday

The men’s wrestling team competed in a home tri-meet this week on Wednesday, Jan. 11. The team faced Rising Sun High School and Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, and beat both teams with scores of 48-30 and 45-34, respectively.

Men’s Indoor Track and Field — Saturday

The men’s indoor track and field team traveled to CCBC Essex Campus on Friday, Jan. 13. The team finished in seventh place out of 13 teams with top events in the 800 meter relay, 1600 meter dash, 800 meter dash, and the high jump.
