Week in Sports: Week of Oct. 1
Women’s Volleyball
The women’s volleyball team traveled to Notre Dame Preparatory School on Tuesday, Oct. 3, and won 3-2. They then faced St. Paul’s School for Girls on Thursday, Oct. 5, and lost 3-1. On Monday, Oct. 9, they will travel to Bryn Mawr for their next game.
Men’s Volleyball
The men’s volleyball team played Archbishop Curley at home on Monday, Oct. 2, and lost 3-2. They then played Curley again on Wednesday, Oct. 3, and lost 3-1. On Friday, Oct. 6, they lost to Loyola Blakefield 3-0. They will face Gilman School on Wednesday, Oct.11, in their next home game.
Women’s Soccer
On Tuesday, Oct. 3, the women’s soccer team traveled to Notre Dame Preparatory School and lost 2-1 in a close game. On Friday, Oct. 6, they traveled to Calvert Hall to play Mercy, in a double header event, while the men’s team played Calvert Hall. They won 2-1, with goals scored by seniors Callie Courtalis and Molly Lynch.
Men’s Soccer
The men’s soccer team played Gilman School on Monday, Oct. 2, Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, Oct. 4, and Calvert Hall on Friday, Oct. 6. They lost to Gilman 6-1 and Mt. St. Joseph 3-0 . However in Friday’s double header event, they won in overtime 2-1. Both goals were scored by junior Hayden Gaeng.
Women’s Tennis
The women’s tennis team had all home games this week, playing Friends on Tuesday, Oct. 3, and St. Timothy’s on Friday, Oct. 6. They lost to Friends 5-0. According to senior tennis player Chika Chuku, the team improved a lot from the last time they played. On Friday, Oct. 6, they lost to St. Timothy’s 5-0.
Field Hockey
The field hockey team played St. Paul’s School for Girls on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at home and won 2-1. Their next game will be at home on Tuesday, Oct. 10, against Annapolis Area Christian School.
Men’s and Women’s Cross Country
The cross country teams both had meets this week. The women’s team ran against Mount de Sales Academy and Archbishop Spalding. The men ran against Boys Latin. The women’s team lost their meet. However the men’s team won and are currently undefeated.
Football
On Friday, Oct. 6, the football team played in their homecoming game against St. Mary’s and lost 40-7. The team’s single touchdown was scored by senior Qadir Ismail. “That night we didn’t bring enough energy to the field, but our next home game will be better,” sophomore Malik Scott said.
