A Tribute to JC’s Most Loyal Athletic Supporters: Dr. Gallen & Mrs. Gauthier
October 30, 2019
Throughout the different seasons of sports at JC, there are always some teachers who stop by for a little bit and cheer on the different teams.
One of these teachers is Religion Department Chairman Dr. Joseph Gallen. For every single game played at JC, Dr. Gallen is there. He shows up for every team, no matter if they are Varsity or JV, haven’t won a game all season, or are on the biggest winning streak of the year; he attends every game.
Along with Dr. Gallen, Mrs. Tess Gauthier, Health and Physical Education teacher, also attends almost every game.
“It means so much to the JC athletes that we have so much support from our teachers,” Junior Morgan Yaich said, a member of the girl’s varsity volleyball team. “It makes the games even more fun.”
While other fans might come and go, Dr. Gallen and Mrs. Gauthier are there even on days when school isn’t in session.
“I think what draws me to watch these games are all the kids,” Dr. Gallen said. “Most of the students playing are my students. Whether I currently have them, I’ve had them in the past or they’re my advisees, it makes watching [the different sports] significant for me.”
For many teams, having a consistent supporter helps boost the mood of the entire team.
“[Dr. Gallen] is literally the nicest human being,” senior Kaitlyn Sydnor, a member of the varsity girls soccer team said. “It is so important to my team and me that he is there. He is so sweet and caring.”
Senior Katelyn Patrick, a member of the varsity field hockey team, feels the same way.
“Dr. Gallen is my favorite person in the entire building,” she said.
Not many people will take time out of their day to see even one team play, but both of these teachers make time for every team. It truly shows the amount of love they have for their students and their passion for JC.
Dr. Gallen and Mrs. Gauthier has been supporting every JC team for years now, through seasons of triumph and defeat. Now, it is time for us to recognize all that they do for the students of JC and their true love for our school.
