Junior Jaquan Corner has been playing football for seven years now.

He started playing the sport when he was nine, his earliest memory being “my first practice ever, and we ran, and I was so tired.”
Jaquan started off in his freshman year starting on varsity. He plays right guard and nose tackle. In regard to how it felt playing on varsity, he said, “It was challenging at first, but the seniors believed in me and had my back, so I stepped up to the challenge,”
Going forward, Jaquan plans on “taking it [football] all the way to the NFL.”
Although he hasn’t decided on a college yet, Jaquan has attended some ID camps and has gotten an offer from UNC at Charlotte. These ID camps are a little more fast-paced than a regular football practice and give the coaches a sense of players’ skills. Academically, he has showed interest in stocks and e-commerce.
To stay in shape, Jaquan works out and works hard every day. He conditions a lot to ensure he has stamina on the field.
While football is fun to play, it also comes with its challenges. One of Jaquan’s biggest challenges was “maintaining a good mental state.”
His goals and inspirations are what helps him perpetuate this positive state. Jaquan said that his mother is his biggest inspiration. “She pushes me though everything,” he said. His goal for this season is to win Friday games.
If Jaquan could give advice to younger athletes, it would be that “all sports are a brotherhood and sisterhood. Always help each other out, and don’t doubt yourself.”
