Alex Eyler has been a part of the College Preparatory Dance Program all four years of high school. During her senior year, she has been able to reflect on her experience and everything she has been able to learn and accomplish in the program.

Alex started dancing when she was three-years-old, which means she has been dancing for a total of 14 years. She said this is why her passion for dance is so strong. Alex commented, “I can’t imagine my life without dance.”

Outside of dancing with John Carroll, she competed with a studio dance team for eight years and has danced in a few Harford Community College shows.

During her free time, she creates dance costumes and dresses. She has even helped with some of the costumes for the John Carroll Nutcracker production.

Through John Carroll’s dance program, Alex has learned to be able to work well with others in order to have that trust with her dance partners, and that practice makes perfect. She added that her favorite part has been “the bonds I have created with not just the other dancers, but with the teachers.”

Alex acknowledges that the worst part about dancing is learning certain dance styles or feeling compared to others. However, she said the best part about dance is “how we can just let everything go and be in the moment.”

Practicing about four days a week, Alex has been getting ready to dance as Clara in The Nutcracker. The Nutcracker is tonight and tomorrow night, and tickets can be purchased at the door.
