‘Air’ is a highly engaging and enjoyable movie just released that tells the thrilling story of how Nike landed Michael Jordan, one of the best-known athletes in the world.
Ben Affleck directs a wild and entertaining film as he shows the tense and risky parts of business.
The story presents Nike salesman Sonny Vaccaro, portrayed by Matt Damon, Nike’s billionaire co-founder Phil Knight, played by Ben Affleck, and Nike’s Director of Marketing, Rob Strasser, played by Jason Bateman.
The film also features Viola Davis as Deloris Jordan who has an outstanding performance that mesmerizes the audience through the true guidance and motherhood needed for the most talented NBA player in history.
Sonny Vaccaro believes in legendary NBA player Michael Jordan, and with conviction and determination, he leads Knight and Strasser into believing it, too. Soon, he is offered his own signature line and wins Rookie of the Year in 1984.
In real life, Nike first signed Jordan in 1984 with a five-year contract worth $500,000. His first deal altered brands and the future of individual athletes.
The beginning of the film features montages and footage of Jordan throughout his years of playing. The soundtrack includes many songs from the ’80s like “Blister in the Sun” by Violent Femmes, “Born in the USA” by Bruce Springsteen, and “Money for Nothing” by Dire Straits.
Throughout the film, co-founder Affleck as Phil Knight is convincingly put in and out of business deals trying to brand and spread the word of Nike although, at the time, Adidas and Converse is at a popularity high. Eventually, Peter Moore comes out with his outstanding and creative designs for the now-known and world-famous Nike Air Jordan shoes.
While Air has a rating of R, it is primarily due to language. However, is an excellent recommendation for people wanting an inspiring and comedic film. It involves genuine emotion and tense deals but, overall, it has a happy and fulfilling ending.
Air began streaming on Amazon Prime Video on May 12 of this year.
