Every year the JC baseball program hosts the annual Josh Hamer Memorial Game. This year the competition was against the Loyola Dons, and JC mercy ruled the Dons in a 12-1 scoring game.
During the seventh inning stretch, Karlee Hartman conducted her Diploma of Distinction project piece with the JC marching band. During the piece, the feature twirlers performed a routine.
As always, the focus of the game was on Josh and his memory. Varsity Baseball Coach Darrion Siler said, “We feel it is of critical importance to remember Josh because it is a part of our collective Patriot Story.”
The baseball team constantly remembers Josh’s legacy. The baseball team has #25 on their helmets, jerseys and hats, and the Alumni Field has a plaque with his name on it to honor his memory.
Mr. Siler added that the reminder the community gets from Josh’s legacy is “to remind us on how to cherish the moments we have together and the importance of acting out of compassion.”
He said, “Josh was truly someone who cared about others. I remember seeing him going out of his way to show kindness to others, and my hope is that other players do the same.”
Seniors on the baseball team understand what an honor it is to play in the memorial game. Griffin Shirk said the game gives the team a chance to “keep [Josh’s] name alive.”
Brad Redmer said that the game is important to “remember Josh’s legacy and continue his legacy.”
Frank Adamski said that the game had and “amazing atmosphere” and that it is a “privilege to play in the game.”
