‘Rocky’ is the first movie in the franchise which spans nine movies along with the new release of Michael B. Jordan’s ‘Creed 3.’
The first Rocky movie made $117.25 in revenue and received several awards, including The Best Picture Award at the 49th Academy Awards. In 2006 the film was selected for the United States National Film Registry to be saved for future generations to come.
The film’s story follows Rocky Balboa, a young small-time fighter trying to get by in Philadelphia.
Rocky has a few friends in the city, including his best friend Paulie who is a very cynical but loyal and dedicated friend. Through Paulie, Rocky meets his love interest Adrian, a shy clerk of a pet store not far from where Rocky lives.
After introducing the characters, the main plot picks up as Heavyweight Boxing Champion of The World Apollo Creed’s opponent drops out of his fight, leaving Creed without an opponent.
This causes Creed to make a quick decision about his next opponent, so he decides to give a small-time fighter in Philly a chance. Creed is drawn to Rocky because of his nickname “The Italian Stallion.”
Creed decides bringing in Rocky will generate a huge amount of revenue for the fight, beginning one of the greatest cinematic rivalries of all time.
Creed goes onto promote the fight and barely trains since he does not consider underdog Rocky a threat.
Before the fight Rocky confesses to Adrian that he does not think he can win the fight, but he wants to go the distance with Creed, something that nobody has ever done before.
Rocky overall is a story about an underdog who faces adversity and overwhelming odds who manages to push through and face things head-on without faltering.
This movie is inspirational for any person who genuinely needs a pick-me-up in their life or to anybody who needs to keep fight through adversity.
This movie has stood against the test of time because people love an underdog, and it gives the message of to keeping going.
I love the movie overall; it’s got everything a person wants: a wonderful story, action, and several sequels.
Rocky is my favorite inspirational movie to watch when I’m down for this very reason, and the sequel Rocky 3 is one of my personal favorite movies because it’s more about getting back up after being knocked down.
