The beginning of the school year has had its ups and downs. It’s hard getting back into the flow of waking up early to go to school, playing a sport, and then going home to do homework.
However, with school starting back up, we get to be back with our friends and classmates and get back into a routine. With coming back to school, I am now a junior. The first week felt a lot different being an upperclassman now with a lot more work and a different schedule.
Realizing that I now only have two years left here, I know that time flies by fast. Take advantage of every opportunity you can; don’t let your time at John Carroll slip away from you.
We have been having a busy September with Homecoming, Spirit Week, and Powderpuff next week. It’s nice to have a busy and fun first month of school to ease back into things.
Along with school and these fun events coming up, fall sports are in full swing as well, and I love watching the other sports teams play. Our girls field hockey played on September 8 against Bel Air at home. It was such a good game; they were tied 0-0 with Bel Air the entire game and then, in overtime, senior Margaret Smith scored the game winner to put them up 1-0.
This was a huge win for them, coming off of winning the IAAM B Division Championship game vs. Mercy. They continue to show how good they are and show how much they have improved. They also played NDP this year who is in the A conference, and we gave them a run for their money, only losing 2-1 in overtime. They continue to show growth and, in my opinion, are going to be right back in the championships this year.
They have a strong team that not only works together well on the field but also off. Many people showed up to this game as well as other sports at JC. I hope that as this month and others continue, more and more people show up to support their John Carroll community.
