Sophomore Josie Bianco is a goalie who has been on the girls varsity field hockey team since her freshman year and was selected to play at the Nexus Championship.
Josie started playing field hockey in fifth grade when her sister started playing. Growing up her biggest inspiration was Sydney Rhodes.
Josie said, “She was my goalie coach and she helped me to grow as an athlete and competitor. Watching her play in college inspired me to play how she does.”
Josie will represent our country and said, “Getting the opportunity to be able to try out for the us team is very exciting.”
To prepare for her season and US tryouts she said, “In the winter, I play indoor field hockey for my club. In the spring, I play outdoor field hockey for my club, and in the summer, I do camps and clinics. I also train year-round.”
She is always playing field hockey, making sure she can be the best possible version of herself.
Josie said, “Our season just began, and we start with a lot of tough competition, but our team is playing very well.”
Not only does she play field hockey now, but she wants to play at the next level in college.
Josie also talks about US and what it means to her. She said, “To play with the highest level of competition in the US in my age gives me a great sense of pride.”
With how far Josie has come, she would tell her younger self that, “Everything happens for a reason, and you can always play at a higher level if you believe.”
Josie’s teammate, senior Julia Ward said, “Josie is truly amazing. Her play speaks for itself. From one goalie to another, I have nothing but respect for her.”
Outside field hockey, she likes to hang out with friends and go to the beach.
