After a long game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, the Orioles came out on top with a 5-4 win in the eleventh inning. This win secured their number- one ranking in the AL East, with the Rays joining them in the playoffs due to a Ranger loss to the Guardians.
According to Sarah Lang of MLB.com, the Orioles are only the second team in MLB history to earn a playoff spot just three seasons after an over 110 game loss season, along with the 2013-2015 Astros.
Key players for this Orioles team include Adley Rutschman, Gunnar Henderson, Cedric Mullins, and Ryan Mountcastle. These men have helped turn the Orioles franchise around and have led them to a successful season.
The team currently holds a 97-59 record and will face off against the Nationals tomorrow night.
JC Baseball Coach Darrion Siler said, “I am in love with the Orioles Magic of this season. I love the way that this team plays the game. They’re fiery; they lift each other up, and you can tell they are having a lot of fun doing it.”
Due to the successful season, Camden Yards has been brought back to life with many members of the John Carroll community filling the stands.
Senior Drew Kelly said the energy at the games is “more alive, and seeing the community come back is great. They are just exciting to watch. It’s electric.”
The last time the Baltimore Orioles won a World Championship was 1983. 40 years later, they hope for another championship. With this young and enthusiastic team, they just might do it.
