Oriole fans were ecstatic over the fact that they were going to the playoffs after a long streak of losing seasons. JC even had a special dress down day to celebrate this occasion.
JC had a cookout, with hot dogs, hamburgers, and nachos for sale during lunch. Everywhere you looked in JC, one could see students supporting the Orioles. Many students were very excited for the team, and there was talk about the games and what would happen all day long.
Many places in Maryland also celebrated using lights, signs, and other fun decorations. One place that showed support for the Orioles was Domino Sugar. In Baltimore, people can see a Domino Sugar sign, so to support the Orioles, they had the sign only light up the O and S so it would read O’s for the Orioles.
For the first time in years, the Orioles stadium at Camden Yards was almost full. Every section had people in it, all decked out in orange, black, and white.
The Orioles, however, ended their season roughly. The team lost two of their final three regular season games, putting them in a not-too-hot spot to start their playoff run.
The Orioles began the playoffs against the Texas Rangers. For the playoffs, the team that wins three out of five games moves on. The Orioles did not start strongly, losing their first game 3-2, giving the Rangers the advantage.
Then the following day, they played the Rangers again at home. However, the Orioles lost 11-8, putting themselves into a deeper hole. Starting the series with a two-game losing streak is not good because this would mean for them to advance, they would need to win the rest of their games.
In the end, the Orioles could not pull off a win and lost their last game 7-1. They were swept by the Rangers who went 3-0 in the series.
