This year, Coach Mark Modeste won the MIAA Coach of The Year Award for Football. He learned about this honor from fellow coach Mr. Seth Goldberg.
Mr. Modeste brought 15 years of coaching experience with him to John Carroll after serving in other positions such as Assistant Head Coach at Sacred Heart Prep in Atherton, California and Head Coach at Archbishop Riordan in San Francisco.
Mr. Modeste said winning this award is “an honor. I think it’s a really good thing for our school and our program. It also shows all the hard work that all the coaches, players, and community have put in.”
Mr. Modeste also believes that his past experiences have helped him to get where he is today, along with the people who have helped and surrounded him during his time at John Carroll.
This year’s football season is over, but Mr. Modeste does not plan to change his coaching much after winning the award.
He commented, “None of this is about me. In high school football, the one thing that I love about it the most is that it’s truly about the experience for the young men, for our players, and for our families.”
Senior football player JoJo Aidoo said, “He deserves it. He knows how to adapt to situations and how to bring a team together.”
Senior football player Buddy Moore added, “To come in and change the culture and the program is worthy of Coach of the Year.”
