For the first time since 2015, the football team made it to the MIAA Championships. They finished the season with an overall record of 7-5.
With a tough start to the season, the team decided to move directions and make a change.
Varsity Football Coach Mark Modeste commented, “We changed our offense which took buy-in and a lot of trust in the coaches and each other and a sense of ownership, but things started to move in our direction.”
The offensive changes became beneficial in the long run and changed the outcome of the remaining season.
The team had spent several weeks preparing for the championships through the season, and they spent even more time with team bonding and building chemistry between players.
Beginning this year, the coaches and players decided to create a new tradition, which included Wednesday Wing Night if they succeeded in making it to playoffs and ice cream on Sundays or Mondays.
Sophomore Collin Rogers added, “My favorite moments of the season were probably team bonding and making it to the championships with my brothers.”
Additionally, throughout the season they faced several challenges, and they were dedicated to overcoming them.
Junior Jackson Harcarik said, “Moving past the adversity we faced in the home game loss vs. Curley and coming back from that to beat them at Curley was tough but a great moment for all of us.”
Senior Oliver Lent explained that “making it to the championships was a huge life moment for all of us. We proved to ourselves that if we worked enough, the good we deserved would come our way.”
Although the team lost 35-0 against Concordia Prep in the championship game, they plan to work towards their goal of winning the championship in the 2024 season.
