Junior Maddie Wassin runs both outdoor and indoor track for John Carroll. Maddie has always had a love for running ever since elementary school, but she knew once she came to JC that she wanted to take things more seriously. Her freshman year is when she started to put in more work on and off the track.
Maddie runs many different parts in both indoor and outdoor track. She runs the 5K during the cross country season, and during track season she runs the 4x800m, 1600m, and 3200m. Managing a sport, practice, and school can be hard.
Maddie said, “Junior year is known to be the hardest year in high school. I manage my time by trying to do all my homework during my off mods, but if that isn’t possible, I leave a certain time of the day open so that I have time to do my schoolwork, homework, and study.”
Maddie strives to break school records every year. During the outdoor season, she has set the record in the sprint medley relay with Maddie running the 800m.
Maddie said, “It made me feel happy setting that record, and it makes me hope to set more records this year.”
Maddie has high hopes for this upcoming season and hopes to lead the girls’ indoor track team to the championship and take a championship win. She plans to have big goals to help both her and her teammates better this year.
Maddie has plans to run at a division one college. She’s pushing herself to the limits this year by making this her big year.
Maddie plans on getting spotted this year by many different colleges. She has major goals for college that she knows she will be able to accomplish.
Maddie wants to make this year her year by winning the championship and getting committed to a D1 college.
Once she makes that commitment, all her dreams from when she was a little girl will finally come true, and she can’t wait to make her little self-proud.
