Senior Ellen Barker was the Promotions Manager for “The Patriot,” as well as a member of the SAC, NHS, and the tennis and badminton teams.
“My favorite memory [at JC] was going on the Spanish exchange to Toledo, Spain. Even though I didn’t know any Spanish because I took Latin at JC, the exchange was one of the highlights from my high school career because I made life-long friendships with the people I met there. I am going to Spain to visit my exchange student this summer actually,” Barker said.
Barker will be attending High Point University to major in business and pre-law. One thing Barker hopes to do when she begins college is to make friends at this small school. She also hopes to graduate in three years, though she is cautious about rushing things because she is “not exactly sure” about what to do for a career.
Graduating for Barker is “bittersweet.”
“Although time at JC has been invaluable, I am more than ready for college next year,” Barker said.
Next year, Barker’s family will be moving to the outer D.C. area, which she expresses to be another big change for her. “I grew up in Harford County and will miss the familiar scenery. But most of all I will miss my friends that I have attended school with for the past 10 years,” Barker said.
Over the summer, Barker plans to go to Europe for a month to countries such as England, France, Spain, and Portugal. For two weeks, she will be travelling with her mother, and for the other two weeks she will be staying with her Spanish exchange student.
