Attending prom is a high school memory most people won’t forget. For senior Ryan Selvy, prom and after prom were a night to remember forever.
“It [prom] was cool to just goof off and be an idiot with a bunch of good friends,” Selvy said.
Selvy will be attending the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in the fall. MICA is a visual arts school where Selvy plans to major in Graphic Design.
“I looked around at a lot of art schools and MICA made the biggest impression on me. It has been around since 1826, so they have to be doing something right. They are nationally known which is good for finding a job, and it just felt like the right fit,” Selvy said.
During high school, Selvy participated in the drama department as well as being a Design Editor on The Patriot.
“Through my high school experience, the drama department and journalism took most of my time as far as extracurricular activities go. I never got into sports, which I don’t think I regret because I had so much fun doing the other two. Not to mention I found my best friends in those clubs and I don’t think I would trade that up,” Selvy said.
As for college, Selvy is “most excited for a new start and doing things I want to do.”
“Also, I’m really excited for my major. It’ll be nice to drop math classes and work on my real calling,” Selvy said.
“I’m really going to miss the friends, teachers, school, and other things, but I’m ready to get away from a lot of things. I’m especially ready to move out of home and go to college where I’m 100 percent in charge of everything. I’ll certainly never forget JC though, it was too much of a good time to move on and forget,” Selvy said.
