The “Gold” sign mystery just got a little clearer.
The signs were produced at Allsigns on Tollgate Road by Paul Jendrek, class of ’75 and owner of Allsigns.
According to Jendrek, Community Development Coordinator Becky Macek of the Harford County Community Services department placed the order for the signs.
However Macek could provide no information on the purpose or goal of the project. Macek said she received an e-mail requesting the signs to be printed and placed the order at Allsigns. Because the e-mail was deleted, Macek does not know who sent the request to her. According to Macek, she “only funneled the artwork through.”
One hundred seventy-five signs were made specifically for JC, and 200 were made for Edgewood High School. However, employees contacted at Edgewood High had no knowledge of the “Gold” concept.
“The Patriot” is following up on Macek’s contacts and will update the story as more details are received. Read previous coverage of the “Gold” signs below.
Guidance Counseler Carrie Siemsen said that the initiative will be revealed on November 9, but refused to comment further, stressing that “I don’t know” when questioned repeatedly.
Sources in the main office said that Siemsen is behind the project, but were unable to give any more information.
Signs line the hallways, from the windows outside of the cafeteria to the academic wing. Already, one sign has been doctored, with “Enter Narnia Here” written in highlighter on white pieces of paper between rooms 109 and 110.
Principal Paul Barker refused to comment, “for the same reasons as Mrs. Siemsen” but said “to stay tuned.”
Some students have admitted involvement, but requested to remain anonymous. One said, “I’m not allowed to say, but a few students have been working on this and people will eventually know.”
