The day before the start of midterm exams, January 11, the “Gold” campaign hosted an event for students to study and manage pre-exam stress.
“It gives students the chance to relieve themselves from stress, without turning to alcohol,” said “Gold” co-campaign moderator and guidance counselor Carrie Siemsen.
“We all really put a lot of thought into it and wanted to make it approachable to students,” said Siemsen.
The event, which took place from 1-4 p.m. in the Brown Room, was a “great success and positive experience for all that attended,” said Siemsen.
Siemsen estimated that between 150 and 200 students attended.
The event offered healthy snacks, relaxing music, massaging chairs, and even a therapy dog to relieve stress.
“Gold” campaign co-moderator and English teacher Eric Sutton was on hand to help students with studying.
”It took a lot of preparation and it was one of the first ideas we came up with as a group and we were really excited about it,” said junior “Gold” member Rachel Dinsmore.
“It’s a really relaxing environment,” said freshman “Gold” member Elise Adamson. “We also wanted to meet the need that students get stressed around exams.”
Students that did attend expressed positive reactions. “It’s really relaxing and it seems like they had a really good turnout which is good. I wish I could stay longer,” said senior Kristi Snyder.
As for more events, Siemsen said “people can expect many things from ‘Gold,’ probably something, every month.”
