The varsity women’s volleyball team is playoff-bound after a dominant victory over Annapolis Area Christian School (AACS) on October 18.
The team started off slowly but came back on senior captain Jenny Hottle’s serving run to take a commanding 15-4 lead. The team continued to perform well for the rest of the set, winning it 25-8.
The Patriots continued their impressive performance in the second set, taking it 25-6.
The third and final set was close, but JC won it, 25-11, taking the game in three straight sets.
Hottle led the team with 8 aces and four kills. Senior captain Nicole Wagner added seven aces and seven kills, and senior captain Taylor Schafer contributed four aces and six kills. Sophomore Elise Adamson shut down the other team with five kills.
Coach Greg Cullison was impressed with the girls’ performance. “[The team] played really well, they are peaking just in time for the playoffs,” he said.
Cullison has faith in the team heading into the playoffs. “If we play well, everything will take care of itself,” he said.
Wagner echoed his feelings, believing that the girls will play well in the playoffs. She said, “We’ll definitely make the semifinals, and we should be in the final match.”
The win improved the team’s record to 11-4 overall, and 10-0 in their conference. They have two more games this week, but their perfect conference record means that they will be the number one seed in the playoffs.
