For the first time since 2018, Archbishop William E. Lori made a visit to JC.
Archbishop Lori was last on campus for the opening of the 2018-2019 school year in September 2018, and on March 24, 2021 he came again.
President Steve DiBiagio said, “We were honored to have Archbishop Lori on campus [last week] to bless our renovated Learning Commons and courtyard where our students gather to work, relax, and build friendships. The Archbishop also participated in the dedication of the new baseball field, where he gave his blessing and spoke about the values of sportsmanship and teamwork.”
Archbishop Lori was escorted to the Learning Commons from the front of the school. He was told about the history and reasoning behind each part of the Learning Commons renovation. This included the student artwork, college-like layout, open windows to the College Center, and many more thoughtful additions.
Archbishop Lori described the Learning Commons as JC’s “living room.”
When blessing the area, Archbishop Lori said, “We ask those entrusted that the education of young people in this institution may teach their students how to join the discoveries of human wisdom with the truth of the Gospel, so that they will be able to keep the true faith and live up to it in their lives.”
He added, “We dedicate this Commons and this courtyard to the education of young people. . . May it be always a center where students and teachers, imbibed with the words of truth, will search for the wisdom that guides the Christian life and strike wholeheartedly to stand by Christ who as their teacher lives and reigns forever and ever. May God’s blessing come upon these wonderful spaces and those who made them possible.”
After the prayer he said, “Congratulations; this is really wonderful and very beautiful, and it’s great for John Carroll and for the students here.”
After the blessing, the Archbishop joked about the poor spring weather and said, “Spring is here; really honestly it is, and I think I’ll come back on the sunny day. Then I’ll bring a sandwich.”
At the conclusion of the event, he was led to the baseball field where he blessed the newly-built field in order to ensure its legacy is bright.
Players will be playing on a blessed field filled with the religious virtues JC upholds.
Mr. DiBiagio said, “We greatly appreciate his strong support and spiritual guidance.”
