Ring Week for juniors looked a little different than previous years. Moderator Shannon Olsen said that the inspiration behind changing Ring Week was thinking back on what she would have wanted as a junior.
“I added some fun things in for the juniors with Mr. [Nathan] Nocket to give the juniors a fun celebratory week for a huge tradition that we have at John Carroll,” she commented.
Beginning the week, juniors received a surprise in advisory: a light-up rubber ring to wear in preparation for their rings on Thursday.
Tuesday was the start of the new “Bling Blitz” competition. In this competition, each junior was provided with a blue beaded necklace for challenging other students to a Rock/Paper/Scissors battle to try and win more blue beads.
Teachers were provided with gold beads for students to challenge them to play Rock/Paper/Scissors, and if students won gold beads, those beads could not be stolen by any other student.
On Wednesday during junior/senior lunch, three final students battled it out to see who won a free Ring Dance ticket.
“The Bling Blitz challenge was very entertaining to watch, so we enjoyed doing that,” said Ms. Olsen
Mr. Nocket and Ms. Olsen dressed in the junior class color blue and had a speaker playing to celebrate the winner of Bling Blitz.
Junior Elizabeth Hughes thought that this was a unique way to get the juniors excited during Ring Week. “It was super fun; even if you didn’t have the most beads, you could still play against your friends. It was a great way to incorporate something fun into the week.”
Junior Juli Aragon, one of the three finalists, commented, “It was really fun. Everybody brought good energy and was very competitive. It was a very good way to kick off Ring Week.”
On Thursday, the juniors got to wear their class shirts and attend a class breakfast before rehearsal. In the evening, they received their rings.
