The Patriots won another game on Dec. 7. The men’s varsity basketball team won against Edgewood making their record a strong 8-0.
The game didn’t start out with too much action but quickly began to pick up. With 5:49 seconds left in the first quarter, the score was only 5-0 JC. But after two points by senior Jarred Jones and three points by senior Ronald Scott, JC began to pull away.
After a simple miscommunication between Jones and senior Malcolm McMillan, Edgewood guard Van Rolle took the ball away and went back to Edgewood’s side of the court. No points were scored off this turn over as JC went back down for a field goal by Jones.
With 2:25 left in the same quarter, Scott committed a foul, giving Edgewood the shot to make two free-throw shots. This was Scott’s second foul, taking him out of the game for a time.
JC answered with a press play and took the ball from Edgewood to head back the other way. Freshman Kamau Stokes made a three-point shot followed by two from McMillan.
With 39 seconds left, Edgewood senior Demetri Eure committed a foul giving JC the free throws. After these shots, a carrying call was called, ending the first quarter with a score of 19-11 JC.
JC came out at the start of the second quarter with two quick points by freshman Lionel Owona. Edgewood turned the ball away after this and gave McMillan the open court for a dunk. This was his second dunk of the night.
Once the ball was put back into the hands of Stokes, he made another three-point shot.
JC had many shots including those from McMillan, Scott, and Owona. Both teams went up and down the court for the remainder of the half. With 2:09 left, JC committed a foul, and Edgewood converted both shots making the score 30-17.
Edgewood answered with back to back fouls against Jones and Stokes. Jones made both shots along with Stokes. This ended the first half and JC continued their pull ahead with the score being 38-19, holding Edgewood to only eight points in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, JC outscored Edgewood 34-5. McMillan and Scott continued to score points with the addition of rebounds and steals.
During the fourth quarter, most of JC’s bench was used, and many different players played in the game. The final score of the game was 82-36, JC being the winners.
Jones was able to accomplish the feat of the triple double with 16 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals. McMillan had a total of 15 points and four assists. Scott ended up with 17 points and Owona helped the team with a strong showing in the paint along with six points and three rebounds.
JC tries to continue their undefeated record next against Joppatowne on Dec 9.
