The Quill and Scroll International Honor Society awarded senior and Online Chief Jenny Hottle a Gold Key in the society’s 2011 International Writing and Photography Contest.
Newspaper moderator Mark Ionescu presented Hottle with the award at the April 29 Quill and Scroll Induction Ceremony.
The award recognized Hottle’s work on The Patriot’s November article “Admin Addresses Campus Drinking.”
Hottle’s article was one of 220 entries selected as national winners from a pool of 3,284 entries for the 2011 contest, according to the Quill and Scroll International Honor Society.
“I forgot that our staff even applied for the awards, and I didn’t think I had a chance. I submitted it because it was one of my favorite articles that I wrote,” Hottle said.
For the fall, Hottle has enrolled in the Merrill School of Journalism at the University of Maryland.
As for her future, Hottle hopes to be a foreign correspondent for a major news corporation.
“Although my high school newspaper is almost over, I’m excited to say that my career as a journalist is just beginning,” Hottle said.
