Danny Brown – “Atrocity Exhibition”

Danny Brown is definitely not for everyone. His voice is unlike any other hip-hop artist working today and seems to be a polarizing topic among listeners. Personally, I think it is part of his overall appeal as he sets himself apart from the majority of generic contemporary rap music.

On “Atrocity Exhibition,” Brown delivers some of the most compelling, aggressive, and experimental hip-hop I have ever had the pleasure of hearing. The album is grimy and dark, and he does not shy away from tough topics such as his own personal demons and drug abuse. The willingness to experiment and push himself lyrically and sonically cement him at the forefront of modern hip-hop in my mind.
