EPISODE 8:
Flash Sideways: Sawyer
Joey: When this whole flash sideways first started this season, I had a hunch that Sawyer would be a complete wreck in real life. Not true. Sawyer’s life in Los Angeles is completely respectable, and it is even better now that he’s got Miles on his side. Surprisingly, Miles and Sawyer make a great team.
Jenny: I never would have pictured Sawyer as an LAPD detective. I could see him as the man whom undercover cops are after but not the other way around. Then again, Sawyer is very deceptive and a good liar, so maybe this job is perfect for him.
Locke’s Group
Joey: The black smoke monster that’s disguised as Locke can really lead a group. He’s persuasive, emotionally strong, and freakishly similar to Ben Linus.
Jenny: Fake Locke tells a young girl that “what happened back there [at the temple] was really scary. But it’s over now. I promise that I will take care of you.” As much as I’d like to believe him, I can’t. As we’ve seen throughout all of the seasons, trusting someone who a character meets on the island usually ends in torture, death, or both.
Joey: Was I the only person who thought that the conversation between the smoke monster and the scared little girl was extremely awkward? Maybe it was just poor acting on the girl’s part.
Jenny: It wasn’t so much the bad acting that made me question this scene. I’d like to know where all these miscellaneous characters are coming from. I’m assuming she was on flight 815?
Claire and Kate
Joey: An insane asylum should be established on the island just to cater to Claire, and by insane asylum, I mean those old polar bear cages. She needs to be put away immediately. I loved how Claire tried to slit Kate’s throat and then apologized with a big hug in a following scene. Nothing says “I’m sorry for trying to kill you” like a big bear hug, or shall we say polar bear hug? Lock her up.
Jenny: Are we really expected to believe that all of a sudden, Claire, who moments earlier attempted kill Kate, is suddenly normal again? Sorry, but I find that really hard to believe. Something’s up with Claire. I agree with Joey—lock her up before she goes psycho again.
What Widmore wants
Joey: Charles Widmore won’t stop until he gets what he wants, but I’m glad he’s on the island again, adding a little spice to the final season. Widmore threw a curve ball by using one of his helpers (Zoe) as bait for Sawyer. I was convinced that his Zoe was an actual Ajira survivor. How naïve!
Jenny: I like the parallelism between the scene with Zoe and the scene in Sawyer’s flash sideways where he caught the woman. It’s nearly the same situation, but this time, Sawyer’s not the con man.
Joey: Here’s my prediction: there’s going to be cat fight, but instead of Claire and Kate, it’s going to involve Widmore and the black smoke monster.
Jenny: I wouldn’t call it a cat fight, but there will be a major showdown coming up. But we probably won’t see it until the final episode.
Sawyer meets Kate and Charlotte for the first time, again
Joey: Charlotte brings Sawyer’s “lover count” to three women. I’m not counting the police bust in the first flash sideways. That lover was strictly business related.
Joey: In the flash sideways reality, Kate is all over the place, but Sawyer has his life under control. It’s odd how the characters’ lives on the island are completely opposite from their real lives.
Jenny: Kate was running from the police, which isn’t far off from what she had been doing in her real past. So, not all of the characters’ alternate lives are completely different.
Kate and Sawyer’s Escape Plans
Joey: I’m counting down the days until next week.
Jenny: I love how the previews always tell us that secrets will be revealed and questions will be answered. But as the season progresses, I find that I’m asking myself more and more questions. I wonder if we’ll ever understand the mystery of the island, even after the show is over.
