Every summer, no matter where you are or what you are doing, there seem to always be a handful of songs that get played over and over again on the radio. Everyone has heard them, and everyone has them on their iPods, ready for that long trip to the beach. According to billboard.com, these were the top 5 songs played on the radio this summer.
#5. “California Gurls” – Snoop Dogg opens up Katy Perry’s song with “Greetings loved ones, let’s take a journey,” and indeed, we take a journey to California where the grass is really greener. Perry takes us to the West Coast where “Once you party with us, you’ll be falling in love.”
#4. “OMG” – will.i.am’s talent for making pop songs doesn’t stop with his group Black Eyed Peas. In the popular 2010 song “OMG,” will.i.am combines his talent with Usher to make this song an upbeat single.
#3. “I Like It”- Enrique Iglesias’s new song “I like it” featuring Pitbull did not appear in the top 5 until it was featured in the season opening of “Jersey Shore,” MTV’s reality hit series, where it captured a major audience. Enrique sounds like he is having fun while he is singing the song, and that enhances the overall sound of the catchy pop song.
#2. “Dynamite” – Taio Cruz’s new hit single, “Dynamite,” has an energetic vibe and almost sounds like it was meant to be a dance party song with lyrics like “I throw my hands up in the air sometimes saying, ‘ay-oh,’ gotta let go” and “I’m gonna celebrate and live my life,” some advice that we can all follow.
#1. “Love the Way You Lie” –“Love the Way You Lie” by Eminem featuring Rihanna is the #1 song played on the radio according to billboard.com. The song which is about an abusive relationship is made more realistic since it is performed by two artists who have each been affected by abuse. Although the two artists have different styles of singing, their voices come together perfectly in this deep song about pain, violence, regret, and the struggle for recovery.
