This week on “World of Jenks,” documentary filmmaker Andrew Jenks focuses on animal rescuer Brogen. Surprisingly, Brogen wasn’t standing on a soapbox preaching about how we should all be vegetarian, but she does goes out and risk her life to save animals.
Within the first five minutes of the show, Brogen breaks into a place believed to slaughter horses and gets chased by armed men. This is the first but not the last time on the show that her life will be endangered.
Let’s be serious, why would someone want to have a job that endangers their life on a daily basis? They should find a normal nine-to-five job and write letters to the government instead.
Later, Jenks and Brogen go to a shooting range because Brogen’s job requires her to carry and potentially use a gun.
Brogen is a huge animal rights activist. She wants to discover animals in need so that her team can help them, but at the same time they don’t want animals to be in a situation where they would need help.
Her job is so dangerous that when the show introduces her boyfriend, they have to call him “Almond” because of the price on her head.
I couldn’t imagine having a job where I can’t tell people my boyfriend’s name because of the danger I would put him in.
Brogen further explains to Jenks why saving animals is so important to her. She shows him before and after pictures of a horse she saved. Before, all of his bones were sticking out and he was in poor condition. After being saved, he was healthy and strong.
Jenks, Brogen, and Brogen’s boss go on a final mission to get pictures of the horses being slaughtered.
The slaughtered horse looked like a horse with an intact head but with a body that was exploded. For once, I understand why Brogen constantly puts herself at risk. She sacrifices so that she can help innocent animals like the horses from the slaughterhouse.
Jenks later checks in with Brogen and finds that because of the pictures they took, the slaughter of animals in Florida became illegal. Their mission was not in vain.
Tune in next week on “World of Jenks” as the show focuses on a professional Las Vegas gambler.
