This week on “World of Jenks,” Andrew Jenks looks at life with European star and pop sensation V. V. Brown, who is trying to be successful in the United States.
My favorite part of the episode comes early in the show when both Jenks and Brown try to imitate each other’s accents. Brown, who is British, portrays Americans as valley girls while Jenks sounds more Australian than anything else.
Brown shares with Jenks that she first came to America because of a record deal. However, after one year, her record company dropped her. She was lost and alone, and had to return home knowing she had failed.
I couldn’t think of a more crushing moment.
Despite the horrible experience, the lessons learned are far more valuable and much more interesting. She found her creative side and her current music taste. In the end, she receives a record deal and is given complete creative freedom.
Brown is constantly on the go and always promoting or working on her music. Each year she only gets three days off.
Sharing her insight, Brown comments on how surviving in the music world is far more difficult in the U.S. than in Europe because in the U.S., bands drop off the music scene and are never heard of again. It is interesting to see the change of culture that Brown has experienced.
In her new music career, Brown has to train a new band. She shares that she has never felt lonelier on this tour, but she can’t leave America because she wants to take the next step in her career.
She is such an inspiration. She is persistent, does not settle for compromise, and has a non-stop creative spirit. Brown is truly talented.
Next week on World of Jenks, Jenks follows around a comedian.
