This week on “World of Jenks,” documentary filmmaker Andrew Jenks follows around comedian Dan St. Germain.
Germain and Jenks first meet in Germain’s apartment, which is nothing less than disgusting. Trash and food plates are everywhere. His mother’s lessons about cleaning up obviously didn’t stick.
Germain is preparing for a stand-up act that he will be performing in the upcoming week. Germain tries to get as many gigs as possible before his stand-up act so that he can practice.
Germain shares with Jenks that he first drank alcohol when he was 14 years old. During college, Germain would begin drinking in the morning. He admitted that he also drank at night, sometimes consuming up to 30 drinks.
Luckily, Germain’s dad took him to AA meetings, so he could get clean. That dad deserves many thanks.
During Germain’s gigs, we get a sense of his life because that’s what his jokes are about. He brings comedy in a good but sometimes crude way, making us laugh at his tragedy.
Jenks performs a comedy act, to get a feel of what Germain does. He gets in front of an audience and cracks jokes. Jenks doesn’t do badly, but he barely looks up.
Later in the episode, we see the nice side of Germain. He volunteers to walk dogs. He does it so that he can do something for others, since comedy is self-involved.
When Germain’s big show finally arrives, he is a hit. The audience loves him, laughs at all of his jokes, and seems to really enjoy themselves.
This “World of Jenks” episode supports the idea that everyone has a good side, even though it might seem like they don’t. Germain is hilarious and offers great insight.
Next week, on the hour-long season finale of “World of Jenks,” Jenks highlights a star high school football player.
