This week’s “World of Jenks” is the best episode yet.
In the season finale, documentary filmmaker Andrew Jenks highlights Abilene High School football player Herschel Sims, who is expected by local fans to be the next football superstar.
Sims did not have a normal childhood. His father used to beat him and his siblings, and his mother was in and out of jail throughout his life.
Sims had one of the worst childhoods imaginable, but he got through it and did what he had to do. Because of that, he is one to be admired.
Jenks and Sims travel to the house Sims used to live in with his parents. Sims tells the story of how he was beaten, and it is easily the saddest moment of the show.
Jenks gets Sims to reflect on his life and he admits that he would rather have a normal family life than be a football star. Sims is a kind, humble player who deserves to do well in life.
Game day finally comes and viewers see Sims at his best. He never misses the ball and he always scores. He truly is the best Abilene High player.
Sims’ character is tested when he injures his shoulder. He sees that his team doing badly, so he ignores the pain and stays in the game. He ends up scoring the winning touchdown.
“World of Jenks” this season was a winner and I recommend catching the other episodes if you haven’t watched them, especially the episode with MMA fighter, Anthony Pettis. This season was great and I can’t wait to see next season.
