Ciara dropped her new album “Basic Instinct” Dec. 14. The album’s basic theme: Ciara is back.
The first song on the album, “Basic Instinct (U Got Me)” is lame. Ciara tries to act tougher than she is. But two minutes in, it gets much better, and Ciara gets back to the Ciara we know and love.
Ciara’s first single on the album, “Ride” featuring Ludacris, has an amazing music video. The song is definitely a favorite off of the album.
“Gimmie Dat” is easily a song that could make anyone dance with catchy beats and the lyrics.
The next song, “Heavy Rotation,” was love at first listen. Ciara has a new futuristic techno beat. I love it.
“Girls Get Your Money” and “Yeah I Know” are both decent enough songs, and I have no complaints.
“Speechless” is a song with an overdone theme about how her relationship is just so perfect. Boring.
Another bad song on the album is “You Can Get It.” The song repeats “You can get it” over and over every three lines. Ciara, don’t worry, we got it.
The album gets better with “Turn It Up” featuring Usher. The song has upbeat and catchy lyrics such as, “Let’s bring it up/Let’s turn it up/I love it loud/Can you turn it up?”
“Straight Up” has a good beginning beat. It reminds me of “I Can Transform Ya” by Chris Brown. The lyrics continue what the beat started. Lyrics like “Straight up love going to tell me are you really going to love me forever?” make the song.
Ciara’s new album is a nice listen, but I recommend finding the music videos for the songs because they really bring the album over the top.
