Adele released her new album, “21,” on Feb. 22. Though the album is great, I recommend listening to all of the songs live on YouTube, because Adele’s album does not even compare to her amazing performances.
The first single off of the album, “Rolling In the Deep,” brings a happiness I have never heard in an Adele song. She usually sounds dreary and whiny, but this song is catchy and has a fabulous beat.
The chorus is very easy to catch onto with great lyrics. “We could have had it all/ Rolling in the deep/ You had my heart inside of your hands.”
The second song off of the album, “Turning Tables,” is a beautiful song. I would recommend going on YouTube though for the live version.
The lyrics in “Turning Tables” are beautiful. It describes how she won’t let anyone hurt or use her. “So, I won’t let you close enough to hurt me/No, I won’t rescue you, you to just desert me/I can’t give you, what you think you gave me/It’s time to say goodbye to turning tables.”
In “Don’t You Remember,” Adele returns to her whiny self. The song is very annoying, so I’d skip it if I were you. She says over and over, “But don’t you remember/Don’t you remember/The reason you loved me before/Baby, please remember me once more.”
“Set Fire to the Rain” shows off Adele’s beautiful voice. However, it has just a little bit of whine in the lyrics. “I set fire to the rain/Watched it pour as I touch your face/Well, it burned while I cried/’Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name.”
Adele lucked out with her next song, “He Won’t Go.” She combined her somber lyrics with a great beat. Normally the lyrics “But I won’t go/I can’t do it on my own/If this ain’t love, then what is/I’m willing to take the risk” would sound so bad. However, in this song, she adds a beat that makes her voice go high and then low to make the song sound perfect.
The next song, “Take It All,” is similar to “Turning Tables” in that it’s best to find it on YouTube where she sings it live so that listeners can fully experience her talented singing.
“One and Only” is so good and is another song that is much better live. When the song is live, Adele’s voice is much more alive and has much more energy in it.
The piano gives the song a sweetness that, when paired with the lyrics, add to the song’s greatness. “I don’t know why I’m scared/’Cause I’ve been here before/Every feeling, every word/I’ve imagined it all.”
Sadly, “Love Song” cannot be saved by the beat or Adele singing it live. The lyrics are very whiny and the slow beat just makes it worse. She continually sings about how she will always love him and how she is all alone now.
“Someone Like You” is a slow ballad. It is the perfect way to end the album. Easily the best line of the song is, “Never mind, I’ll find someone like you/I wish nothing but the best for you, too/Don’t forget me, I beg/I remember you said sometimes it lasts in love/But sometimes it hurts instead.”
Adele’s new album “21” is a hit. It has just enough of everything.
