Green Day’s newest album, “Awesome as F**K,” brings new flavor to old songs by presenting all of the songs live.
The album consists of some previous Green Day songs along with new ones. The band brings back classics like “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Holiday,” “Know Your Enemy,” “21st Century Breakdown” and “American Idiot.”
It’s nice to hear a raw version of songs so that listeners can really pay attention to the vocals and the background music. The songs sound so natural without auto-tune added on, allowing listeners to really know what the artists are capable of by hearing their true musical talents.
The songs on the album sound very similar when listening to the album straight through. They blend nicely and make it hard to tell the difference between songs. Normally, this would be annoying, but on “Awesome,” it is a nice touch.
An excellent song on the new album is “Viva la Gloria.” It starts slow but then goes into the common Green Day theme by rocking out. “Jason Andrew Relva (J.A.R)” is also amazing with great lyrics: “And I think that it’s all right/ That I do what I like/ ‘Cause that’s the way I want to live/It’s how I give and I’m still givin’.”
I originally liked “Who Wrote Holden Caufield” because it referenced my favorite literary character, but upon further observation, I found that the song is awesome even without considering the name. Lyrics make the song cool: “There’s a boy who fogs his world and now he’s getting lazy/ There’s no motivation and frustration makes him crazy.” “She” has such great guitar solos. “21 Guns” and “Good Riddance” are perfect and are made even better by being played live.
Green Day’s album “Awesome as F**k” brings new life to old songs by playing the songs live and turning some decent songs into awesome songs.
