Bowling for Soup released their new album, “Fishin’ for Woos” Tuesday, April 26. Their album is fun and consists of high energy rhythms throughout.
The first song off the album, “Let’s Pretend We’re Not in Love” is a prime example of Bowling for Soup’s high energy. I highly recommend it. The lyrics convey a fun and carefree tone: “Let’s run away/ And pretend we’re not in love/ And try it again/ Let’s run away/ And pretend we’re not in love/ And try it again.”
“S-S-S-Saturday” follows in the footsteps of “Let’s Pretend We’re Not in Love,” possessing the upbeat qualities. In addition, the song has a catchy rhythm, making me want Saturday to come faster. Lyrics such as, “Punch the clock/ Right on time/ Think I’m gonna lose my mind/Five o’clock seems like it’s a lifetime away,” make the songs entertaining.
“What About Us” could possibly be the hardest song to find on youtube.com. Why would you name a song the same way Michael Jackson does? It’s like Bowling for Soup is asking for no one to listen to their music.
The next song could possibly be the funniest song that I have ever heard. “Here’s Your Freakin’ Song” follows the lead of the first few songs. The first couple lines are very entertaining. “Baby for years you’ve been saying why don’t you write me a song and last night I’ve decided I’m going to freakin do this/ You talk too much, you never shut up, everything I do for you is never enough.”
The next song, “This Ain’t My Day,” slows down a bit, yet at the same time keeps Bowling For Soup’s energetic style. The lyrics are fun, saying, “I didn’t wear a smile today/ I looked up and all the blue skies turned grey/ This ain’t my year this ain’t my week this ain’t my day.”
“Smiley Face” picks the beat back up with its energetic melody. While this song can be considered a song to dance to, it includes strange lyrics like, “You get a smiley face for showing your good side/ We’re going worldwide/ You know you can’t shake it.”
Their album slows down again with “Turbulence.” “I’ve Never Done Anything Like This Before” features Kay Hanley. The song is awesome and just plain sassy. The lyrics have things like “She said her name was Summer/When I asked her for her number/ She said “Never mind I get off at eight.”
The best song off the album, “Friends, Chicks, Guitars” keeps it so fun and high-energy. I would love to hear this song every day. The song is so light and fun with lyrics like “This has been a great night/ No one got into a fight/ Met some girls, saw a band/ Everything went just as planned.”
“We’ll Never Persevere,” “Guard My Heart” and “Girls in America” are other songs off the album to watch out for.
“Fishin’ for Woos” is definitely an album to buy in its entirety, aside from the song “What About Us.” The songs are great fun, slow or not. I would recommend this album to anyone who enjoys lively, spirited music.
