Gio’s Winter Outlook

Will our area have a snowy winter?

Giovanni Rizzotti, Entertainment Editor

The winter season in Maryland from late 2019 through early 2020 brought very little snowfall to the state. We did not see any major accumulating snowfall through the entire season.

My prediction of an active winter season, with multiple snowfalls and one big snowfall for Maryland for the 2019-2020 snow season, did not fare too well.
However, weather can be extremely unpredictable. Weather is such a difficult task to forecast. It takes much skill and knowledge to get a good forecast. Even then though, forecasts aren’t entirely accurate.
As we enter the 2020-2021 winter season, weather forecasters are making predictions using advanced weather models that can look into the future and show what kind of conditions will be established across an area. Using this, they can attempt to predict not only if and when snowfall will occur, but how much snowfall will fall if an event happens.
Using these global weather models, and other information, I am making my second prediction for snowfall in Maryland this year. I am not a professional forecaster yet, so this is for entertainment purposes only. But, for the 2020-2021 winter season in Maryland, I am predicting we will see multiple snowfalls, with at least one big snowfall, potentially a blizzard.
