Taylor Swift portrays heartbreak perfectly in “Red”

Nine years ago, on October 22, 2012, popstar Taylor Swift released her fourth studio album, “Red.” The album featured 22 tracks with featured artists such as Ed Sheeran and Gary Lightbody.

One of Swift’s most successful albums, “Red,” featured singles such as “22,” “We Are Never Getting Back Together,” and “I Knew You Were Trouble.”
Now, in 2021, Swift has announced that she will re-recording the album and re-titling it “Red (Taylor’s Version).” The new version of the album will be released on November 19, and it will feature 30 songs, including eight new songs “From the Vault” which have never been heard before by fans.
In preparation for the re-recording of one of Swift’s most iconic albums, I recently listened to all tracks on the album in order to form my opinion.
After listening to the album, I feel that the best tracks were, “The Lucky One,” “Holy Ground,” “Red,” “Starlight,” and “All Too Well.”
These songs all contain beautiful lyrics, with genius similes, metaphors, and heartbreaking melodies.
For example, one of the best songs in the album, “All Too Well,” contains a heartbreaking lyric which says, “Time won’t fly; it’s like I’m paralyzed by it. I’d like to be my old self again, but I’m still trying to find it.”
Swift portrays the feeling of heartbreak perfectly in this album. Feelings of bittersweetness and loss are prominent in her writing. Even people who have never been in a relationship are able to experience the heartbreak Swift must have felt when writing this album.
Other than the songs on the album full of breakups and bitterness, the album also contains plenty of fun songs perfect for dancing and partying. Songs such as “22,” and “We Are Never Getting Back Together.”
With upbeat choruses and catchy lyrics, it’s no surprise these songs were immediate hits, amassing hundreds of millions of streams on Spotify as of today.
However, the album does have its flaws. Some of the songs such as “Sad Beautiful Tragic,” and “The Last Time,” have boring choruses and similar melodies.
In “The Last Time,” Gary Lightbody is featured; however, Swift and Lightbody’s voices do not complement each other very well, and the song sounds messy as a result.
As November 19 approaches, Swift fans everywhere are becoming more excited to hear the re-recordings of this iconic album and finally hear the new songs Swift is releasing with it.
