Aeowynn’s Novel Choices The Best Books to Read in the Fall

Aeowynn Ayres, Entertainment Editor

The fall season is a perfect time to cuddle up with a good book. Here are some recommendations that fit any mood.

The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot by Marianne Cronin: This book has been one of my recent favorites. Seventeen-year-old Lenni is living with a terminal illness. In the hospital art room, she meets eighty-three-year-old Margot.
As their relationship grows, they find a commonality between them; they’ve cumulatively lived for one hundred years. Together, they decide to make one hundred paintings, each from a year of their life.
Throughout the book you see the hardships that both girls have had to face growing up, and you really become attached to the characters.
Before I Go by Colleen Oakley: This book follows main character Daisy as she tries to find a new wife for her husband. She has cancer and is only projected to live for about four months.
Daisy spends her last months worrying about leaving the love of her life, which leaves her questioning her sanity. This book is gut wrenching and tear jerking and will leave you wanting more.
The Memory of Things by Gae Polisner: Kyle Donehue watches the first Twin Tower fall on the morning of September 11, 2001. While fleeing to his apartment, he finds a girl covered in ash, wearing a pair of wings. Kyle decides to bring the girl home, in hopes of helping her. Kyle tries to find out who this girl is and where she came from because she can’t remember herself.
On top of that, his mother and sister are in California, and his father is on the scene trying to save people from the rubble. Kyle is left to take care of his disabled uncle, which isn’t as hard as he originally thought.
As days pass, Kyle doesn’t seem to want this mystery girl to leave. Reading this book keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering if the girl will get her memory back, and wondering if Kyle’s dad is okay. – Aeowynn Ayres
