Hocus Pocus 2 was released on September 30, on the streaming platform Disney+. Audiences entered the movie with elevated expectations and a desire for a nostalgic feel.

Hocus Pocus 2 both disappointed many audience members and did not live up to the standard set by the original Hocus Pocus movie.

The original Hocus Pocus came out on July 16, 1993. The movie originally flopped at the box office but found its resurrection through cable TV on channels like Disney and ABC Family.

Even though the movie had a rough start, it stole many people’s hearts and became a Halloween classic for families around the globe. Between the 29 years from the original to the sequel, many fans wanted more of the iconic Sanderson sisters and were rewarded with Hocus Pocus 2.

Hocus Pocus 2 starts out showing the background of the Sanderson Sisters, telling the story of how they were brought up into witchcraft and kicked out of Salem, Massachusetts. While providing helpful background information on the beloved main antagonists, the movie also introduces a new generation of helpless kids bringing back the trio.

We are introduced to two new main characters, Becca played by Whitney Peak and Izzy played by Belissa Escobedo, who bring the sisters back to life. The actors do an excellent job fulfilling the roles.

The movie took social media like wildfire spreading around through all platforms. The original Hocus Pocus fans were expecting to see Max, Dani, and Allison as major characters but were extremely disappointed when they do not make an appearance. Hocus Pocus 2 has a more modern take over the original one, focusing on the more childlike tone.

What this movie does lack is the nostalgia of the first movie. The original followed Halloween through the eyes of children and their view on the spooky night while the new movie tries to enhance the teenage feel to connect with new viewers.

The modernness feels forced throughout many scenes. Of course, there must be changes made to fit the timeline, but it completely changes the whole ambiance from the original.
Overall, the movie is a significant letdown.

Although the acting is high-quality, the plot has many holes and fails to reach the expectations set by the original Hocus Pocus.
