Review: Arctic Monkeys drops album ‘The Car’

English rock band Arctic Monkeys released their seventh studio album The Car on October 21 after not releasing music since 2018.

I have been listening to Arctic Monkeys for a few years now and was so excited when they announced the release of a new album. I wasn’t sure what direction lead singer Alex Turner would take this album, but he did not disappoint in the slightest.

The album is that of love, longing, and melancholy, with beautifully written lyrics and a unique set of instruments. The composition of the music is different from previous ones, as the album is considered to be rock, but it has notes of jazz and lounge music featured throughout the track list.

My favorites of the album’s ten songs are “There’d Better be a Mirrorball” and “The Car” for similar reasons.

“There’d Better be a Mirrorball” is a slow, drawn out song that has a very nostalgic tone. This is the first track on the album, and I think it’s a perfect introduction to the rest of the album.

“The Car,” the sixth song on their album, is more upbeat, but it still has elements of slower music.

These two songs specifically are written beautifully for Alex Turner’s voice, and the songs really complement each other.

Listening to this album feels like going through a maze of mixed emotions and loss, and it is orchestrated beautifully. This is by far one of the band’s best albums yet.
