As the Halloween season comes to an end, John Carroll students turn to Legends of the Fog for a spooky, fun experience. Although today is Halloween, Legends of the Fog will be open until November 5 in Aberdeen.

Legends of the Fog is a unique haunted house experience. Participants are scared, yelled at, and chased through a variety of settings. Legends boasts four unique attractions: Haunted Hayride, the Farewell Hotel, Cornstalkers Haunted Maze, and Slaughterhouse.

On the Haunted Hayride, visitors travel through hordes of zombies, trying to make their escape.
If you manage to escape the fog, you can visit the Farewell Hotel. There, you have to look through over 70 doors to find the one that will let you escape.

Once you escape the hotel, you can head over to the Cornstalkers Haunted Maze, where the twisting maze provides a frightening challenge as you try to find your way out before you get caught.

If you make it out of the maze, you will find yourself at the doorstep of the Slaughterhouse, where you can explore the abandoned meat processing plant and try to avoid becoming meat yourself.

Senior Sierra Simmons works as an actor in the Cornstalkers Haunted Maze. Currently, Cornstalkers is ranked the scariest out of the four attractions.

Sierra said, “My job is to basically stalk guests through my section of the corn. I was taught how to choose a victim for my initial scare and then how to keep my act going as I either stalk or chase them.”

Sierra said that her favorite part of the job is to “chase people. One of the first things I was taught was ‘if they run, chase them.’”

Visitors to the Haunted Maze get to interact with the actors in the corn and enjoy being scared as they try to escape.

According to Sierra, “People go to Legends of the Fog because it is a fun experience that brings people together.”

The idea behind a haunted house is not new, but Legends is special because it uses absolutely no special effects or animatronics. It relies solely on actors to provide frightening experiences for its visitors.

Senior Joy Knowles visited Legends of the Fog toward the end of October. Joy said that “this year was a lot scarier than it has been in the past. They had strobe lights, and you could see one second, and you couldn’t see the next.” Joy braved the Slaughterhouse, Legend’s newest attraction.

Tickets are sold for 30-minute windows. Legends sells tickets for Green, Yellow, and Red nights.

On Green nights, you can expect smaller crowds and very few lines. On Yellow nights, you will find some lines, and moderate crowds. Tickets may sell out, so it is good to purchase ahead of time. On Red nights, you will have the largest crowds and the longest lines, and you can expect tickets to sell out ahead of time.

The price varies depending on what attractions you are planning to visit, but Legends is definitely worth the expense.
