With winter coming to an end in a little more than a month, now is the perfect time to add some books to your to-be-read list.

Girl in Pieces– Kathleen Glasgow

This novel follows 17-year-old Charlotte “Charlie” Davis as she tries to rebuild her life from the ground up. After getting out of the psych ward, Charlie’s mother abandons her and sends her to live with her friend Mikey in Arizona. There she tries to restart, gets a job as a dishwasher, and has an apartment of her own. Her journey with mental health fluctuates throughout the novel, and she decides to go to New Mexico with her coworkers in hopes of restoring her mental stability. This novel highlights the highs and lows of living with a mental illness, but it gives hope to readers who relate to Charlie.

The Last True Poets of the Sea– Julia Drake

Violet Larkin is sent to visit her uncle in Maine to help deter her risky behavior. The Larkin family settled in Maine when the ship of Violet’s great-great-great grandmother sank and forced passengers to swim to shore. While in Lyric, Violet gets a job at the local aquarium and meets best friend Liv Stone. Over the course of the summer, they try to uncover the missing shipwreck that the town claims as their start. Violet is a strong narrator and can be relatable to many teen girls, making the story much more interesting.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo– Taylor Jenkins Reid

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a work of historical fiction that follows a journalist as she is tasked with writing a biography for Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo. Evelyn discloses her life of abuse and poverty before fame and tells about how she got married at 14 to get away from home. Evelyn unveils the truth about her seven husbands, and how they were all a cover up to hide her true love. This book discusses the hardships women face in the entertainment industry and the rocky road that is coming to terms with one’s sexuality.
