The Lost Art of Hiking

Annabel Everett, Features Editor

As winter winds down and summer draws near, I am always itching for a chance to bask in the summer sun or go to the beach. However, because spring time is not quite warm enough for that just yet, I love going on hikes during my break to enjoy the spring sunshine and new flowers in bloom.

Some of my favorite places to hike in the spring time are the King and Queen Seat at Rocks State Park in Harford County, Susquehanna State Park in Havre de Grace, Jerusalem Mill in Kingsville, Gunpowder Falls State Park in Middle River, and the Patapsco Valley State Park in Ellicott City.

The King and Queen Seat at Rocks State Park has beautiful rock structures that overlook a gorgeous river and forest scene in Maryland. The Susquehanna State Park trail overlooks the Susquehanna River, and the trail features places for visitors to look through binoculars to sightsee Bald Eagles and other wildlife.

Jerusalem Mill and Gunpowder Falls State Park both feature pretty waterways and forest scenes that hold colorful birds, creatures, and beautiful flowers.

Finally, the Patapsco Valley State Park in Ellicott City, although a far drive, is wonderful with gorgeous waters, a waterfall, bridges, forest scenes, and wildflowers.
